2024 5-star QB Jadyn Davis chooses Michigan football over Ohio State

Ohio State lost a battle for one of the top quarterbacks in the 2024 class to its rival.

2024 five-star quarterback Jadyn Davis announced Friday on ESPN his commitment to Michigan, choosing the Wolverines over the Buckeyes, Tennessee, Clemson and North Carolina.

Davis, out of Charlotte, North Carolina, is listed as the No. 28 prospect and No. 4 quarterback in the 2024 class per 247Sports' composite rankings.

Davis is Michigan's second five-star quarterback commit in the past four recruiting classes. as the Wolverines secured J.J. McCarthy out of IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida in 2021.

On March 21, Michigan secured a commitment from four-star running back Jordan Marshall, the reigning Ohio Gatorade Player of the Year out of Archbishop Moeller High School in Cincinnati, who also had Ohio State as a finalist.

Before Davis, Michigan had the No. 4 recruiting class in 2024, the best of any Big Ten team. Ohio State sits at No. 7 after recent commitments from 2024 twin offensive linemen Deontae and Devontae Armstrong.

The Buckeyes' only five-star commit in 2024 is wide receiver Jeremiah Smith out of Hollywood, Florida — the No. 1 wide receiver in the class.

Will Ohio State football have a quarterback commit in 2024?

Ohio State once had the No. 1 player in the 2024 class committed in quarterback Dylan Raiola.

Once the five-star quarterback ended his commitment to the Buckeyes in December, Ryan Day and the Buckeyes had to return to square one at the position.

Ohio State added four-star and the 15th-ranked quarterback in Lincoln Kienholz for its 2023 class.

In 2024, four quarterbacks Ohio State has offered already have committed homes: Julian Sayin (Alabama), Davis (Michigan), Ryan Puglisi (Georgia) and Colin Hurley (LSU). Adrian Posse was once committed to Auburn, but ended his commitment with the Tigers in January.

Ohio State coach Ryan Day lost a 2024 commit in quarterback Dylan Raiola in December.

Left-handed quarterback Air Noland out of Langston Hughes High School in Fairburn, Georgia is also on the Buckeyes' radar, putting Ohio State in his top-seven with a commitment date set for April 8 despite not holding a Buckeye offer. Noland, who was teammates with 2023 Ohio State tight end Jelani Thurman, is visiting Columbus this weekend.

Ohio State also has offers out for two quarterbacks in the 2025 class: Bryce Underwood out of Belleville, Michigan — the No. 1 quarterback and No. 3 prospect in the class — and Ryan Montgomery out of Findlay: the younger brother of 2023 Buckeye offensive lineman Luke Montgomery.
