2024 Acura Integra Type S Has More Power than the Civic Type R

The latest Honda Civic Type R is a stick-shifted hot hatch with enough attitude and power to fit its style. What could be better than that? Well, Acura might have the answer. The Acura Integra Type S is here, with more power than the Civic Type R and posh interior accommodations. The Integra Type S packs a turbocharged 2.0-liter I4 under the hood that feeds power through a six-speed manual transmission to the front wheels.

That turbocharged four-cylinder is basically the same K20C1 engine you’ll see in the Civic Type R. That shouldn’t be a huge surprise considering that the Integra is still based on Honda’s Civic. Though, in Integra trim, this 2.0-liter engine makes 320 hp, which is a 5-hp jump over the Civic. This turbo-four breathes through what Acura calls a new high-flow exhaust system, which could be part of the Integra’s power bump over the Civic Type R.

Managing that power in the Integra Type S is only a six-speed manual transmission—no automatics here. This manual-only decision follows the Civic Type R and should make prospective buyers just as happy. Also like the Civic Type R, Acura says this six-speed is a close-ratio box, which will be helpful on your track day. You can also dig through the Acura accessory book and add a titanium shift knob to put a cherry on top of your hot hatch sundae.

Inside the Acura Integra Type S, you’ll find heavily bolstered front seats with plenty of Ultrasuede and leather to hug you through the corners. In addition to the Ultrasuede inserts, the front seats are heated for those living in colder climates. Ultrasuede also wraps a shift boot to add another dash of flair. Handling the infotainment duties is a 9.0-inch touchscreen that comes standard with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Feeding you information about the car is a 10.2-inch digital instrument cluster.

The Integra Type S rides on a set of 19-inch wheels that are wrapped in Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires. The wheels and tires take advantage of a wider body to help stretch the track width by 3.5 inches in the front and 1.9 inches at the rear. Stopping these wheels is a pair of two-piece brake rotors in the front that are clamped by four-piston Brembo monoblock calipers that are cooled by functional brake ducts.

The Acura Integra Type S will go on sale this June, but pricing is still to be determined. With the Honda Civic Type R’s $44,390 base price, count on the Integra Type S to carry a bigger price tag. Though, for someone wanting an Integra Type S in their stable, the price might not be that important.
