2024 International Portuguese Music Awards performers and hosts revealed

PROVIDENCE – From new pop and fado sensations to a legendary Portuguese rock band, the 12th International Portuguese Music Awards (IPMA) will bring together a star-studded line-up of performers on May 4 to the Providence Performing Arts Center.

Their names were revealed at the 2024 IPMA Launch Party held Dec. 9 in the main lobby of the Providence Performing Arts Center.

“The atmosphere was electric with excitement and anticipation,” said David Saraiva, who co-produces the International Portuguese Music Awards with José “Zack” Xavier and Manuel da Costa. “The audience responded with tremendous enthusiasm to our announcements. The night reinforced our commitment to honoring outstanding artists of Portuguese heritage. We eagerly anticipate crafting yet another unforgettable night that will leave a lasting mark on the global stage.”

Who will be performing at the 2024 IPMA show?

  • Bárbara Bandeira. One of Portugal’s most popular pop singers, Barbara Bandeira had the country’s top-streamed Spotify song of 2023, titled ‘Como Tu.’ Bandeira won New Star of the Year at the 2018 Golden Globes Portugal and the 2022 MTV Europe Music Award for Best Portuguese Act.

  • Joey Medeiros. A grandson of Azorean immigrants, Joey Medeiros was born in California and is a three-time IPMA winner. He has conquered the hearts of fans in places like Toronto, Bermuda, and Portugal.

  • Anjos. The duo is formed by brothers Nelson and Sérgio Rosado, who are celebrating their 25th anniversary as artists. Their album ‘Longe’was a best-seller in Portugal.

  • Sara Correia. After winning Portugal’s Grande Noite do Fado in 2006 at only 13 years old, Sara Correia has emerged as a leading voice of the new generation of fado singers. Her album ‘Do Coração’ was nominated for a Latin Grammy. She is currently a mentor on ‘The Voice in Portugal.

  • Nuno Ribeiro. After several hits over recent years, Nuno Ribeiro collaborated with superstars Calema and Mariza for the chart-topper “Maria Joana,” which was a finalist alongside songs by Harry Styles, Kylie Minogue and Niall Horan in the OGAE song contest in Australia.

  • GNR, a.k.a Grupo Novo Rock. GNR is a legendary band from Porto that pioneered the Portuguese rock scene. They have played on some of the biggest stages including Rock in Rio. GNR was awarded the ‘Medal of Cultural Merit’ by the President of Portugal in 2005.

Who will be hosting the 2024 IPMA show?

Former NCIS: Los Angeles star Daniela Ruah will be co-hosting the International Portuguese Music Awards for a third consecutive time with Portuguese TV and radio personality Ricardo Farias.

How many awards will be handed out?

The IPMAs recognize outstanding achievement in the music industry by international artists of Portuguese ancestry.

“This is a window that has been open to put a spotlight and shine on the Portuguese talent across the globe,” said João Gonçalves, who served as master of ceremonies at the IPMA Launch Party.

In 2024, awards will be presented in 13 categories, including rock, rap, fado, pop, music video, and best new talent. The two New Talent finalists will perform live.

The show will be broadcast online and on various media outlets, including on RTP International which reaches 20 million households worldwide.

Launch party guests treated to a performance by Olavo Bilac

IPMA Launch Party guests were treated to an acoustic performance by Olavo Bilac, lead singer of the legendary Portuguese rock band Santos e Pecadores, followed by entertainment from DJ Son & DJ Prince of Phoenix Productions.

Olavo Bilac, who has performed in New Bedford at a previous IPMA show and at the Fall River Day of Portugal celebration, told O Jornal he feels at home in this region, and he has made some friends here.

“It’s always a pleasure to make new friends and see old ones, and be able to share a little bit of our culture,” said the singer, who will celebrating the 30th anniversary of his music career next year.

How much are IPMA tickets and how can you acquire them?

The 2024 IPMA show will start at 7 p.m. and tickets are already on sale.

Ticket prices range from $53 to $293.
