2024 Krewe of Southdowns: What to know about parade route, parking, weather

BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — The Krewe of Southdowns will roll for their 37th annual Mardi Gras parade in Baton Rouge’s Southdowns Neighborhood at 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 9.

This year’s theme is “Southdowns in Wonderland.” The route will start at Glasgow Middle School and end at the Acadian-Perkins Plaza Shopping Center.

According to their website, the Krewe of Southdowns is Baton Rouge’s “Baton Rouge’s first, and most unique, family-friendly night Mardi Gras Parade.” Pets are welcome to attend.

This year’s king and queen are Justin and Amy Moore.

Parade Route

Float line-up will begin at Glasgow Middle School, located on Glasgow Avenue. From there, the parade will turn left onto Whitehaven Street and right onto Lee Drive. It will make a quick turn right from Lee Drive to Hyacinth Avenue and then left on Edinburgh Avenue. From Edinburgh Avenue the parade will take a left on Arrowhead Street and then left on Stuart Avenue. From there, it will turn left back onto Whitehaven Street before making a right turn on Stephens Avenue. The parade will then make a left turn back onto Hyacinth Avenue before turning right on Cherrydale Avenue. After Cherrydale, it will turn right on Morning Glory Avenue and then turn left on Cloverdale Avenue, ending at the Acadian-Perkins Plaza Shopping Center.

Parking

Paradegoers are encouraged not to park along the route. Instead parking will be available nearby and down side streets.

Weather

The weather forecast for Feb. 9 calls for a low of 59 degrees and a high of 74 degrees with a 40% chance of rain.
