2025 Evans High School offensive lineman Mason Short announces college commitment

Evans’ Mason Short poses for a portrait on the school’s football field on Monday, July 18, 2022.

After many months of traveling and speaking with coaches, 2025 offensive lineman Mason Short has made his college decision.

The Evans High School sophomore committed to the University of Alabama Sunday, according to his Twitter account.

A four-star prospect according to 247sports, Short felt like the time was right to make a decision, considering he also had offers from Georgia, Ohio State and many others.

"I really just felt at home there like I would fit in perfectly. I’ve been praying about it and it just felt right," he said. "I committed now because once I made my decision in my heart it didn’t feel right to continue to go on visits to other colleges. I didn’t want to waste their time."

High expectations: this Alabama commit was making noise as a freshman

Short remains one of the most committed players in the area, often setting the fanfare aside in order to prepare with his teammates in the trenches. With this decision behind him, he'll have that much more time to spend this summer preparing for the fall. With two years of high school football standing between him and Tuscaloosa, the sky is the limit for the 6-foot-7, 280-pount tackle has that much more room to grow and improve.
