21-year-old killed in crash on State Route 37

RUSHCREEK TOWNSHIP – The Lancaster Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a two-vehicle, fatal crash that occurred approximately 5:12 a.m. Jan. 22.

According to a news release, a 2014, Honda Civic, operated by Cody D. Neece, 21, of Thornville, was traveling west on State Route 37, east of Jerusalem Road. Neece attempted to pass a 2010, Hyundai Accent, operated by Maria J. Bremm, 35, of New Lexington.

Neece lost control, went off the north side of the road, struck a tree and his vehicle overturned. Neece was ejected and succumbed to his injuries at the scene. Bremm’s vehicle was struck by debris from Neece’s vehicle and Bremm sustained no injuries, according to the patrol.

The crash remains under investigation.

Other agencies on scene include Berne Township Fire/EMS, Fairfield County Coroner’s Office, Ohio Department of Transportation, and the Fairfield County Sheriff’s Office.
