21-year-old killed in robbery attempt at Hilltop gas station

A 21-year-old Milo-Grogan man was shot and killed late Tuesday after an alleged robbery attempt at a Hilltop gas station.

Columbus police said Andrew Combs was found shot just before midnight outside the Sunoco gas station located at 2725 W. Broad St. Combs was rushed to an area hospital, but he died from his injuries at 12:56 a.m. Wednesday.

Initial reports indicate Combs may have been shot after refusing to give his belongings to someone attempting to rob him.

Second man killed in Northeast Side shooting identified

Columbus police have also identified a 37-year-old man who was one of two people killed in a Northeast Side shooting last week.

Branden Morris, 37, of North Linden, and 45-year-old Matthew Scheurell, of Grove City, were found shot around 6:40 p.m. on Dec. 8 on the 1000 block of Marland Drive North.

Morris died at the scene. Scheurell was taken to OhioHealth Riverside Methodist Hospital, where he died a short time later.

Police have not identified any suspects or motive in their deaths.

Person found dead inside burning pick-up truck on Northeast Side

Police are also investigating after a body was found inside a pick-up truck that was on fire Wednesday morning on the Northeast Side.

The fire was reported around 6 a.m. near the intersection of Karl Road and Morse Road. It was not clear if the truck had been involved in a crash prior to the fire.

A person was found dead inside the truck. The death is being investigated as an accident, pending the results of an autopsy.
