A 21-year-old man believed to be involved in a crash that killed a skateboarder in Springfield on Sunday morning has been arrested, according to Springfield Police.

Police responded to a 911 call at 1:49 a.m. Sunday for a vehicle-pedestrian collision on the 3000 block of Main Street, police said.

Police said the vehicle had been traveling westbound on Main Street. The skateboarder was heading westbound in the bicycle lane, police said.

An officer stopped a dark-colored sedan matching the description of the fleeing vehicle and arrested the man, police said. They said speed and alcohol appeared to impact the crash.

Police have not identified the deceased. Westbound Main Street was closed for more than four hours following the crash.
