Editor's note: Police initially stated that victim, Jordan Angel Lee Loveall, met "with the suspects to purchase illegal narcotics," according to the Aug. 5 news release. Subsequent court documents allege that Loveall was selling marijuana to the two men suspected in his killing.

LAFAYETTE, Ind. — Twenty-one-year-old Jordan Angel Lee Loveall died late Friday after a shooting in the 2000 block of Roosevelt Avenue, Lafayette police and Tippecanoe County Coroner Carrie Costello confirmed.

Loveall planned to meet David Trevino, 21, of Friona, Texas, and Adian Suarez, 23, of Harford, Texas, to buy drugs, according to police. Trevino and Suarez, however, planned to rob Loveall, according to police.

Shots were fired, and Loveall was wounded. Trevino and Suarez were not injured and ran away, according to police, who were called at 11:20 p.m. Friday to the scene, which is the same block as the McAllister Recreation Center on the city's North End and one block south of Schuyler Avenue.

Loveall was taken to Franciscan Hospital, where he died, Costello said.

Suarez was quickly found in the area and arrested by Indiana State Police, according to Lafayette police.

Trevino was located about 6:10 a.m. Saturday in the 600 block of North Fourth Street, according to police.

Both have been jailed on suspicion of murder while committing a felony, according to police.

Police said Trevino and Suarez were temporarily in Lafayette on a job assignment, police said.

Loveall's autopsy is scheduled for Monday, Costello said.

Pending confirmation from the autopsy, the man's death is the fifth homicide of 2023.
