A 21-year-old woman has died after the car she was riding in hit a traffic signal pole in Dover Friday night, according to the Dover Police Department. The driver, a 20-year-old man, was not injured, but police said they are evaluating him for a "possible medical condition."

The 20-year-old was heading east on Division Street towards the intersection with Park Drive and NE Kings Highway in a 2019 Nissan Altima, according to police.

At 7:44 p.m., police said the car crossed the center line and hit a traffic island. The Altima then drove into a traffic signal pole in the northeast corner of the intersection, according to police.

The passenger, Briyana Berry, was wearing a seatbelt but was killed in the crash. Police identified her Monday.

Police are still investigating the cause of the crash. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Dover Police Department at 302-736-7130 or call Delaware Crime Stoppers at 800-TIP-3333.
