Here are the 21 top Ames-area high school sports performers for June 13-19

The Ballard baseball team ran its winning streak to five games this past week with victories over Nevada (11-1) and Bondurant-Farrar (7-2) and a sweep of Carlisle (6-4 and 9-8).

The Roland-Story baseball team swept both Lenox and Greene County in doubleheaders last week. The No. 4 (Class 1A) Collins-Maxwell softball team gave a Carlisle team rated fourth in 4A all it could handle before falling by a 2-1 score Saturday at the Oskaloosa Invitational.

Ames split with Waukee Northwest in baseball and defeated a Central Springs team rated No. 1 in 2A by an 8-5 score in softball. The Gilbert baseball team downed Saydel (6-1) and lost a close battle with Adel-Desoto-Minburn (3-1) and the Tiger softball team scored victories over Perry (11-8) and Roland-Story (9-7) at the Kiwanis Invitational Friday in Roland.

The Roland-Story softball team took down Ballard (9-7), Nevada (13-3) and Greene County (4-2).

The Nevada baseball team earned road wins over Carroll (11-10) and West Central Valley (17-2) and Colo-NESCO picked up wins over Baxter, BCLUW and Dunkerton on the baseball diamond.

Madison Geise

Madison Geise hit a grand-slam home run for the Roland-Story softball team in its victory over Ballard last Tuesday at Huxley.

Geise also homered and drove in two runs during the Norse's Heart of Iowa Conference win over Nevada and she was the winning pitcher against Greene County, giving up six hits and two walks with four strikeouts in six innings.

Spencer Hansen

Hansen was 4-for-4 with two doubles and five RBIs for the Colo-NESCO baseball team in a 19-4 victory over Melcher-Dallas Saturday.

Hansen also drove in three runs in a 20-12 victory over BCLUW June 14 at Zearing.

Alexis Houge

Houge was 2-for-2 with a walk, four steals and three runs for the Collins-Maxwell softball team in a 13-1 victory over Riceville Tuesday.

Houge also went 2-for-3 and scored both Spartan runs in a 2-0 victory over Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont Thursday and she went 2-for-2 with two runs in a 16-0 win over North Tama Friday.

Erica Houge

Erica homered, drove in five runs and struck out six batters for Collins-Maxwell in the victory over Riceville.

She tossed a two-hitter with nine strikeouts and also singled and drove in a run against Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont and she hit a three-run double and threw two shutout innings in the win over North Tama.

Trevor Jensen

Jensen gave up one run on eight hits in six innings as the winning pitcher for the Gilbert baseball team against Saydel.

Jensen had two strikeouts and three walks in the victory.

Eli Eldred

Eldred was 1-for-3 with a double and two runs for the Gilbert baseball team in its victory over Saydel.

Eldred also doubled and drove in a run in the loss to ADM. He was 2-for-3 with both Tiger RBIs in the loss to DCG and added one scoreless inning with one strikeout on th emound.

Bella Nelson

Nelson was 3-for-4 with three RBIs for the Gilbert softball team in its victory over Roland-Story at the Kiwanis Invitational.

Nelson also doubled twice and drove in three runs in the Kiwanis victory over Perry.

Sydney Lynch

Lynch went 2-for-4 with two runs for the Gilbert softball team in its victory over Roland-Story.

Lynch also was 2-for-4 against Roland-Story and she picked up two runs and RBIs apiece against the Norse.

Ben Amador

Amador tossed a five-hitter for the Ames baseball team in its 2-1 victory over Waukee Northwest June 15.

Amador had nine strikeouts against just one walk in the victory.

Evan Grey

Grey was 2-for-3 with one run and RBI apiece for Ames in the victory over Waukee Northwest.

Grey also went 4-for-4 with one run and RBI apiece in a 10-5 loss to Des Moines Roosevelt June 17.

Ireland Buss

Buss was 2-for-4 with a home run for the Ames softball team in its victory over Central Springs.

Buss also was 2-for-3 with a run in a 6-4 loss to Ankeny Saturday and 2-for-4 with a solo homer in a 7-6 loss to Ankeny Centennial June 13.

Ellie Lynch

Lynch went 3-for-8 with a double in two games against Centennial and 3-for-6 with a run in a doubleheader against Waukee Northwest for the Ames softball team.

Lynch also finished 1-for-3 with a run and two RBIs in the win over Central Springs and she was 3-for-3 with a double, triple, three runs and an RBI in the loss to Ankeny. She added a 2-for-3 performance with a triple and a run in a 4-1 loss to Williamsburg June 17.

Kayley Birkland

Birkland hit her first home run of the season for the Roland-Story softball team during its 13-3 victory over Nevada June 15.

Birkland was 2-for-4 with three runs and two RBIs in the win.

Thomas Matthes

Matthes went 3-for-4 with two doubles, a home run and three RBIs in a 5-2 victory over Lenox and 2-for-5 with a double, home run and three RBIs during a 13-10 triumph over the Tigers in a doubleheader June 13.

Matthes also was 3-for-4 with two doubles and three RBIs in a 9-0 victory over Greene County and he gave up just two hits with nine strikeouts in 5 2/3 shutout innings in a 5-0 triumph over the Rams during a doubleheader June 16 at Jefferson.

Matthew Phelan

Phelan was a combined 5-for-6 with two doubles and four RBIs for the Roland-Story baseball team in its sweep of Lenox.

Phelan was also 2-fof-4 with a double and three RBIs in the sweep over Greene County.

Alex Berends

Berends tossed a one-hit shutout for the Roland-Story baseball team in its 9-0 victory over Greene County.

Berends had 11 strikeouts and only two walks in the victory.

Kenny Cutler

Cutler went 3-for-5 with a double, four runs and two RBIs for the Colo-NESCO baseball team in its victory over BCLUW.

Cutler was 1-for-3 with three runs and an RBI in the victory over Melcher-Dallas and 1-for-4 with an RBI in a 3-2 victory over Dunkerton June 15.

Eli Rouse

Rouse was 5-for-7 with two runs and RBI for the Ballard baseball team in a doubleheader sweep of Carlisle June 16.

He also gave up four runs on five hits with five strikeouts and three walks in the 6-4 victory over the Wildcats.

Rouse was also 1-for-3 with a run in the victory over Bondurant-Farrar and 2-for-3 with a run and two RBIs in the victory over Nevada.

Karter Beving

Beving was 3-for-4 with four RBIs for the Nevada baseball team in its victory over West Central Valley Saturday.

Beving also was 1-for-4 with two RBIs and was the winning pitcher in the victory over Carroll. Beving gave up four earned runs on five hits and four walks with seven strikeouts in five innings in the victory over Carroll.

Maggie McCrady

McCrady was 3-for-5 with two doubles and three RBIs for the Ballard softball team in a 16-14 victory at North Polk June 13.

McCrady also homered and drove in three runs in a 9-7 loss to Roland-Story and she was 2-for-3 with two RBIs in an 8-3 loss to Bondurant-Farrar.

Caden Hasbrouck

Hasbrouck was 2-for-4 with two RBIs and he also was the winning pitcher for the Collins-Maxwell baseball team in an 8-3 victory over Riceville June 14.

Hasbrouck allowed two earned runs on six hits and three walks with seven strikeouts against the Wildcats.
