Get your turkey legs and Shakespearian accents ready. The 21st annual Siouxland Renaissance Festival is Saturday and Sunday at the W.H. Lyon Fairgrounds in Sioux Falls.

"We are trying to recreate the emotional feel of a village in 1575," said Anna Vorhes, the executive chair of the Siouxland Renaissance Festival. "We are very family friendly and I think that's one of our secrets."

From jousting to music, the six stages will offer a variety of Renaissance-era activities.

Here's what you need to know:

Two days, rain or shine

The festival will take place Saturday and Sunday this year. Certain events will happen inside the Expo Hall and there will be large tents as well.

On Saturday, the festival will go from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.. Hours on Sunday are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Admission costs $15 for adults, $6 for children and people over the age of 65, and is free for children under the age of 3.

Parking is different this year

Because of parking lot construction at the Fairgrounds this year, guests will be asked to park by the Expo Building.

Guests can enter along Lyons Blvd and buy tickets before they park.

Vorhes encourages people to buy tickets online before they come to the fair to help ease some of the traffic.

What to expect this year?

There will be a variety of activities including jousting, educational entertainment and music at six different tents.

Jousting will be held twice a day at the Royal Exposition Hall. Children can also try jousting at the children's area with special horses, rings and lances.

"We do a lot of educational pieces as well," Vorhes said. She explained that they host a scavenger hunt for children where they have to speak with the characters to learn about the renaissance era.

Vorhes plays Lady Anne Cooke Bacon and talks to children about what it was like to grow up with Queen Elizabeth I.

"The kids get to hear that and get to think about what it might have been like to be a kid in the Renaissance," she said.

Kids and adults alike will have the chance to learn how to use a German long sword at the combat area. Those who feel like they have the chance to be knights can take lessons from Sir Allyn Grant at the Court Pavilion in the children's area.

At least 28 vendors will be selling food and rein fair garb throughout the day in the vendor village inside the Expo Hall.

Expect some showers this weekend, NWS

The renaissance festival will happen rain or shine, but be prepared to bring an umbrella Saturday.

Showers are expected for Saturday while Sunday will be partly sunny, according to the National Weather Service.

The high Saturday is expected to be around 68 and it will be breezy, according to the NWS. On Sunday, the high is expected to be 70.
