22 artists to gather for ‘Parkville Paints Jam’ in Hartford on Saturday

On Saturday, 22 local artists will go to 85 Pope Park Highway in Hartford for a “Parkville Paints Jam,” where they will each paint one garage door.

The garage doors can be seen by motorists on I-84. They were previously painted in 2016 with a repeating, multicolored fan pattern. This time, each artist can paint whatever they want on their garage door.

Painting will take place from noon to 6 p.m. The event was created by the Parkville Paints Project. Organizer Matt Conway said the project, which is a division of RiseUP for Arts, aims to paint more than 50,000 square feet of murals in the city’s Parkville neighborhood.

“These murals will bring vibrancy, color and attraction to the Parkville neighborhood and cement it as the innovative and creative capital of this state,” Conway said.

Previous Parkville Paints projects were the pink parrot mural at 1810 Park St., painted by Michael Rice; the Fatherhood mural at 250 Hamilton St., painted by Corey Pane; The Capitol Heart at Parkville Market, painted by Julie Bergeron; the Beloved Community mural, also at Parkville Market, painted by local youth; and Pope Commons mural, painted by Rice.

Artists painting on Saturday are Joey Batts, Julie Bergeron, Kevin Boudreau, Steph Burr, Ellis Echevarria, Chris Gann, Jillian Goeler, Sophie Groenstein, Candyce John, Ben Keller, KWOTE, Jaime La Jones, Micaela Levesque, Sophia Livecchi, Dooney Man, Corey Payne, Jai Marc Renee, Michael Rice, Emida Roller, Andre Rochester, Samson Tonton and Brian Troccolo.

A QR code for the Parkville Paints Project will be on the last door. More information is at parkvillepaints.com.
