22 More Coronavirus Deaths Confirmed In Alabama

MONTGOMERY, AL — As the Alabama Department of Public Health confirmed 1,502 new COVID-19 cases in the state Saturday, 22 more deaths from the virus were also added to the state total. The 22 deaths reported Saturday brings Alabama's fatality total during the pandemic to 1,553.

Of the 1,502 new cases reported Saturday, 653 of them came from Jefferson and Mobile counties, the second day in a row where those counties produced more than a third of the total new COVID-19 cases in the state.

Total, the state has confirmed 86,780 cases of the virus, with 21,296 of those cases reported in the last 14 days. in Alabama, 694,802 COVID-19 tests have been administered, meaning the state has a 12.4 percent positive rest rate overall, and a 13.1 percent positive test rate in the last two weeks. The national average is 8 percent.

Mobile County reported the most new cases of COVID-19 Saturday, followed by Jefferson and Madison counties.

The counties reporting the most new COVID-19 cases Saturday:

  • Mobile County: 382 new cases; 8,466 total

  • Jefferson County: 271 new cases; 11,465 total

  • Madison County: 97 new cases; 4,817 total
