22-year-old Mass. woman seriously injured in ATV rollover crash in NH

A young Massachusetts woman was seriously injured in an ATV rollover crash in New Hampshire on Saturday night, officials said.

Emergency crews responding to a report of an ATV crash in the area of Erik’s Way in Jericho Mountain State Park in Berlin around 7:15 p.m. found 22-year-old Gianna Massa, of Leominster, suffering from serious but non-life-threatening injuries, according to New Hampshire Fish and Game.

Massa was navigating an exceptionally rocky part of Erik’s Way when she came around a sharp corner and the front of her ATV hit a rock and went up in the air, throwing her off balance, officials said. She was then thrown from the machine and temporarily lost conscientiousness after hitting a rock.

Massa was ushered to an awaiting ambulance on the back of a conservation officer’s ATV and taken to Androscoggin Valley Hospital for treatment.

Officials say inexperience on difficult trails likely caused the crash, not alcohol or drugs.
