22-year-old pedestrian struck and killed by vehicle in Fayetteville

A pedestrian was struck and killed by a vehicle Saturday night, the Fayetteville Police Department said.

Officers responded at 9:21 p.m. to a report of a pedestrian struck by a vehicle in the area of Bingham Drive and Frankie Avenue, according to a news release from the Police Department.

Ja’Lauis McDougald, 22, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the release.

A preliminary investigation revealed McDougald was crossing the road in all dark clothing, and a Nissan was traveling in the fast lane. The driver of the Nissan saw McDougald in the roadway and attempted to avoid him but struck him, the release said.

McDougald was thrown into the opposite lane of traffic, where he was then struck by two additional vehicles traveling toward Raeford Road. The vehicles did not stop, the release said.

One of the vehicles is described as a Dodge Charger. The second vehicle is described as an unknown SUV. Officers with the Traffic Unit are looking for these vehicles.
