228 New Coronavirus Cases In Norwalk Since Thanksgiving: Mayor

NORWALK, CT — The city reported 228 new cases of the coronavirus since Thanksgiving, as the virus continues to spread through Norwalk and the state, according to Mayor Harry Rilling.

The number of cases since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic in Norwalk stands at 4,584 as of Monday, but no new deaths were reported.

Norwalk's coronavirus infection rate is currently 62.6 per 100,000 people, according to state health officials, well over the 15 cases per 100,000 that place Norwalk in the red alert category, the highest devised by the state. About 150 other Connecticut communities also are under red alert.

With the number of cases remaining at a high level, seven Norwalk schools are on remote learning schedules (click here to view the operational status of all Norwalk public schools):

  • Nathan Hale Middle, until Dec. 7

  • Columbus Magnet, until Wednesday

  • Marvin Elementary, until Friday

  • Norwalk High School, Brien McMahon, P-Tech and Center for Global Studies until Dec. 14

"Unfortunately, this virus continues to spread, with virtually the entire state in the red-alert zone," Rilling said. "Following the guidelines, limiting gatherings, socially distancing, and mask wearing, will help us slow this virus down. It was unfortunate that new cases in the school community arose over the long weekend, and I appreciate the care and urgency put forward by Norwalk Public Schools to keep students and staff safe. Our current situation is not easy for everyone, but rest assured everyone is doing their very best to keep the community healthy."
