23-year-old Arizona man killed while jogging on Illinois Route 29 north of Chillicothe

An Arizona man was killed Friday morning when he was hit by a vehicle while jogging north of Chillicothe, Illinois State Police said.

Jonah Koponen, 23, was jogging on Illinois Route 29 in Peoria County near Hardscrabble Road around 8:15 a.m. Friday when the crash occurred, according to an ISP news release.

Police say Koponen, of Phoenix, was struck by a pickup truck driven by a 44-year-old Sparland man headed north on Route 29.

The roadway was closed for about five hours as authorities investigated. No charges have been filed in the crash, but the release stated the investigation is ongoing.

An autopsy in the case was scheduled for Saturday at the Peoria County Coroner's Office, Coroner Jamie Harwood said.
