23rd annual memorial honors 88 victims of Alaska Airlines Flight 261 crash
Dozens gathered at Hueneme Beach Park Tuesday for the 23rd annual memorial for Alaska Airlines Flight 261.
The plane crashed in the waters north of Anacapa Island on Jan. 31, 2000, while en route to San Francisco from Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. The flight's five crew members and 83 passengers died.
Every year, the families and friends of the 88 victims travel to Port Hueneme to gather around the Memorial Sundial monument to honor and remember their loved ones. The ceremony features the Hueneme High School ROTC Color Guard, an invocation, recitals from family members and a reading of the names of the dead.
