Does Interstate 24 take you to Clarksburg?

Well, not exactly.

Drivers headed west on Interstate 24 toward Clarksville were greeted this week by an I-24/I-65 sign pointing toward Clarksburg and Louisville.

Needless to say, residents may have found that a bit confusing or humorous, depending on one's point of view.

A Tennessee Department of Transportation spokesperson said Thursday the sign is getting updated.

"We are aware of it and a crew will be repairing it tonight," spokesperson Rebekah Hammonds said Thursday. "They just have to remove the 'burg' and replace it with 'ville.'"

Clarksville Mayor Joe Pitts said he alerted TDOT about the issue.

“Everyone makes mistakes and deserves an opportunity to correct them," Pitts said in a statement. "I’ve sent another photo of the issue to TDOT asking for their help.”

Of course, there is a Clarksburg, Tennessee. It's just not in Montgomery County and Interstate 24 west isn't exactly how you get there.

Clarksburg, a town of fewer than 400 residents, is located in Carroll County in West Tennessee. It's much closer to Interstate 40.
