24-hour Vietnam veterans' vigil begins Tuesday in Beaver

BEAVER – A 24-hour vigil is planned at the Vietnam War Memorial in Beaver's Quay Square.

The Vietnam Veterans of America will begin the vigil at 1 p.m. March 28.

Families of Vietnam veterans will lay memorial wreaths at the site, and a bagpiper will play "Amazing Grace," military marches, the Marine Corps hymn and other songs.

At the Vietnam War memorial in Beaver's Quay Square, a display shows a military rifle with a helmet and dog tags. The tags are engraved with the phrase "Never Forget" and are dedicated to veterans in Beaver County.

The vigil was postponed from Christmas Eve due to inclement weather.

National Vietnam War Veterans Day is March 29.

"We'd like to see the public's attendance, and to understand why we're there for the vigil," said John Szatkiewicz, a Vietnam Veterans of America representative from Ohioville.
