A 24-year-old man is dead after crashing into oncoming traffic in Deltona, FHP says

A 24-year old man, identified as Brandon Michael Morales, died after crashing into an oncoming car at Howland and Fort Smith boulevards late Saturday, according to Florida Highway Patrol.

Morales was driving southbound on Howland Boulevard and attempted to turn left onto Fort Smith Boulevard around 11:30 p.m. when he turned into the direct path of a 2018 Dodge Challenger and crashed head-on, then he hit a 2003 Chevrolet Pickup, FHP said.

Morales was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the challenger was taken to a nearby hospital with minor injuries; the other car involved remained on scene without injuries, FHP said.

Just before 3 a.m. Sunday, while FHP blocked off the road to investigate the crash, Bryan Morales Perez, 30, drove through crime scene tapes, cones and marked patrol vehicles with their lights flashing, FHP said.

Perez was stopped by an officer and after failing a sobriety test and having a half-empty can of High Noon vodka in the car, he was arrested for DUI and taken to Volusia County Branch Jail and released on $1,500 bail Sunday morning, FHP said.

The investigation into the car crash is ongoing.
