Couple to discuss ‘breaking point’ in decision to step back from royal life
Relatives of more than 300 girls abducted by gunmen from their boarding school in northwest Nigeria endured an agonising wait for news amid rumours that they had been released, while security forces continued their search on Sunday. An armed gang kidnapped 317 girls from the Government Girls Science Secondary School in the town of Jangebe, in Zamfara state, at around 1 a.m. on Friday. Two Reuters' correspondents saw a heavy military presence in state capital Gusau on Sunday, with army trucks moving in convoy and police checkpoints on major roads.
Prince Harry, who shocked Britain last year when he and his wife Meghan stepped back from royal duties, told U.S. interviewer Oprah Winfrey that he had worried about history repeating itself, according to excerpts released on Sunday. The CBS broadcast network released two brief clips from Winfrey's interview of the couple, which is scheduled to air on March 7. "My biggest concern was history repeating itself," Harry said, apparently referring to his mother Princess Diana, who was hounded by the British press and died at age 36 in a car crash in Paris after her divorce from Prince Charles.

Archaeologists have unearthed a unique ancient-Roman ceremonial carriage from a villa just outside Pompeii, the city buried in a volcanic eruption in 79 AD. The almost perfectly preserved four-wheeled carriage made of iron, bronze and tin was found near the stables of an ancient villa at Civita Giuliana, around 700 metres (yards) north of the walls of ancient Pompeii. Massimo Osanna, the outgoing director of the Pompeii archaeological site, said the carriage was the first of its kind discovered in the area, which had so far yielded functional vehicles used for transport and work, but not for ceremonies.
New York Governor Andrew Cuomo's office cleared the way on Sunday for an independent attorney with subpoena powers to investigate allegations against him of sexual misconduct. The governor's office backtracked on its original plan to choose its own investigator after widespread criticism from fellow Democrats. "We will hire a law firm, deputize them as attorneys of our office, and oversee a rigorous and independent investigation," New York Attorney General Letitia James said in a statement.

Sunday's legislative and local elections in El Salvador are seen as a referendum on whether to break the congressional deadlock that has tied the hands of upstart populist President Nayib Bukele. El Salvador’s established political parties — the conservative National Republican Alliance party and the leftist Farabundo Marti Liberation Front — are trying to keep their hold on congress and other key positions, which they have maintained since the end of the country's civil war in 1992. Anger with the parties that ruled El Salvador for nearly three decades swept the youthful Bukele into office in 2019, and frustration remains.

Gabriel Landeskog said the Colorado Avalanche have felt a little snakebit in recent weeks, putting together good offensive opportunities without many goals to show for them. Jacob MacDonald broke a tie with his first goal of the season and the Avalanche scored four times in the third period to beat the Arizona Coyotes 6-2 and sweep the two-game, two-day series. Nathan MacKinnon, Joonas Donskoi, Tyson Jost and Pierre-Edouard Bellemare also scored, with the Avalanche putting 41 shots on goal.

Two days before the assault on the U.S. Capitol, Pennsylvania state Sen. Doug Mastriano, a Republican, said supporters of then-President Donald Trump's claims of election fraud were basically in a “death match with the Democrat Party.” A day later, right-wing activist Alan Hostetter, a staunch Trump supporter known for railing against California's virus-inspired stay-at-home orders, urged rallygoers in Washington to "put the fear of God in the cowards, the traitors, the RINOs, the communists of the Democrat Party.” The shared grammatical construction — incorrect use of the noun “Democrat” as an adjective — was far from the most shocking thing about the two men's statements.

Another shock winner has been picked at the 2021 Golden Globes. Jodie Foster on Sunday won the Golden Globe for best supporting actress for her performance in The Mauritanian. It was a major upset, as pundits widely thought the winner would either be Glenn Close for Hillbilly Elegy, Amanda Seyfried for Mank, or Olivia Colman for The Father. This was the latest surprise win at show after an earlier upset for Rosamund Pike for I Care a Lot. No one seemed more shocked by the win than Foster herself, who even jokingly suggested Jamie Lee Curtis could have read the wrong name. "Are you kidding me?" Foster said. "I think you made a mistake." Seyfried had at one point been seen as the Best Supporting Actress frontrunner in the Oscar race, although that narrative came into question after she was not nominated at the Screen Actors Guild Awards. Now, with this Golden Globe win, Foster may pick up some serious momentum two months ahead of the Oscars.
