Gov. Tony Evers has signed the biennial budget, funding the state for the next two years.

Within the cuts and partial vetoes, little was changed to the proposed funding for construction projects around the state.

Here is what you should know.

How much money is budgeted for construction and building projects?

The budget currently has $1.9 billion, which is where the Joint Finance Committee had the budget after cutting items from Evers' proposed budget.

What are the major projects listed in the signed budget?

The UW System: About $943 million will go to projects across the UW System statewide. Some of the big ticket items in there include $285 million for replacing Camp Randall Sports Center and turning it into an indoor football facility, and $231 million for demolition of Phillips Hall and the completion of a new Science/Health Science Building at UW-Eau Claire.

Corrections Facilities: $50.6 million is earmarked for improving correctional facilities around the state. More than half ($28.8 million) will go to replacing the health services unit of the Dodge Correctional Institution. Evers had originally proposed over $218 million for corrections facilities updates, including $83 million for juvenile correctional facilities.

Military: Evers and Republicans agreed on four major projects totaling $67.8 million to update or build military facilities around the state.

Wisconsin Historical Society: $160 million is included in the budget for construction of a new state history museum in Madison.

2025 NFL Draft: The budget includes $2 million to help Green Bay host the National Football League draft in 2025.

How much did Evers originally propose for construction?

In February, Evers' proposed budget includes over $3.3 billion that will go toward building and construction projects around the state. More specifically, $3,320,700,900.

How much did Republicans propose to cut from Evers' budget?

The Republican-filled Joint Finance Committee cut a total of $1.3 billion from Evers' proposed budget, bringing the budget for construction projects to $1.9 billion. This include removing some projects Evers' proposed for a few UW- System campuses and renovations to a state-owned administrative building in Madison. More than 500 items on Evers budget were cut.
