A man was struck and killed by a vehicle on Southern Avenue in Phoenix early Monday morning.

Phoenix police responded to 5700 W. Southern Ave. in Phoenix just before 3 a.m. for a call regarding a collision between a vehicle and a pedestrian. First responders found the pedestrian, later identified by police as 29-year-old Darrle Woody, dead in the street.

The driver of the vehicle remained on scene, and detectives said they do not believe impairment was involved in the crash. Police said a preliminary investigation indicated Woody was in the roadway when the vehicle, traveling west on Southern Avenue, struck him.

An investigation into the incident was ongoing.
