2A state marching contest results: West Texas bands fare well in San Antonio
SAN ANTONIO — Nineteen Class 2A marching bands from around the state competed for the title of Texas' best Tuesday, including five from West Texas, with two Panhandle-South Plains ensembles placing among the top six bands of their size statewide.
Preliminary 2A competition in the UIL State Marching Band Championships took place Tuesday morning at the Alamodome, with finals competition stretching late into the evening. Seven of the 19 state qualifiers moved on from the preliminary competition to the final round.
Two schools from Red River County in far northeast Texas claimed the top two spots in Class 2A. Bogata Rivercrest was crowned state champion with their nautical show "Beacon of Hope," and Clarksville claimed silver with "Levels: Darkness Into Light."
The Pride of Panhandle, just east of Amarillo, earned bronze with "1851: The Search for Gold," finishing just ahead of reigning champion Shiner. Sundown placed sixth with its Hockley County-inspired program "The Road Home." Other Class 2A West Texas bands competing at state were Ralls, Hale Center and Lockney, who finished eighth, 12th and 18th respectively.
