2nd person jailed on murder charge in Scotland County killing

SCOTLAND COUNTY, N.C. (WBTW) — Authorities have charged a second person with murder in a January killing on 9th Street in East Laurinburg.

Zeonte Quentez McNeill, 18, of Laurinburg, is being held without bond in the death of Isaiah Emmanuel Smith, 25. the Scotland County Sheriff’s Office said. He is charged with murder and conspiracy to commit murder.

Smith, who lived in the Bayfield community in Scotland County, died at the scene of the Jan. 16 shooting. A 15-year-old, whose name has not been made public, was previously arrested and charged with murder.

McNeill is being held in the Scotland County Detention Center. The teenager also remains in custody.
