2nd State Vaccination Site To Open At Phoenix Municipal Stadium

PHOENIX — Due to high demand, the Arizona Department of Health Services will launch a second state vaccination site at Phoenix Municipal Stadium on Tuesday.

The launch of a second mass coronavirus vaccination center comes amid the success of the site at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, which has vaccinated approximately 12,570 people since its launch on Monday. In a news release, the department of health said the 24/7 site is already booked through January.

“Arizona’s vaccine site at State Farm Stadium has been a game changer,” Gov. Doug Ducey said in a statement. “This week has demonstrated Arizonans are ready for the COVID-19 vaccine. We’re going to do our part to make sure they get it. I’ve said that vaccines do no one any good sitting in a freezer, and I’m grateful to the team at the Arizona Department of Health Services and Arizona Department of Emergency and Military Affairs who have worked tirelessly to ramp up distribution.”

Registration for new appointments at State Farm and for the new site at Phoenix Municipal Stadium — which will be open during the day — will open on Tuesday at 9 a.m. That also marks the first time Arizonans over the age of 65 will be able to register for an appointment due to a change in state eligibility guidelines.

Arizona and its 15 counties are working to expand the vaccine rollout as cases continue to surge. The state reported 7,311 coronavirus cases and 182 additional deaths Thursday.

The news release also said Arizona will add up to 100 pharmacies providing vaccines over the next few weeks. Over 200 vaccination sites have received the vaccine statewide, as of Wednesday.

“This is positive, encouraging news as we scale up our vaccination capacity in Arizona,” ADHS Director Dr. Cara Christ said in a statement. “It’s clear that Arizonans are excited about the opportunity to receive the COVID-19 vaccine. We’re working around the clock to meet that demand. As the federal government ships more vaccine doses to Arizona, we will have more vaccine sites and appointments available soon.”

Maricopa County is currently in Priority Phase 1B of its vaccination plan, which includes law enforcement officers, educators and Arizonans over the age of 75.

Those eligible starting Tuesday can register for an appointment and find vaccination sites online. Those without computer access or needing extra help registering can call 1-844-542-8201 to be connected with someone who can assist.

Those signed up will need to show identification and demonstrate their eligibility for the current phase.
