$3.6 million construction begins on Ocracoke Light Station

MANTEO, N.C. (WAVY) — Just one month after its groundbreaking event, the Ocracoke Light Station project is underway.

The $3.6 million project includes repairs to the Ocracoke Light Station and Double Keepers’ Quarters to be completed by Terra Site Constructors LLC.

According to the National Park Service, site repairs will include the the removal of shrubs and interior demolition to raise the Double Keepers’ Quarters structure.

While these repairs are underway, these changes will be put in place:

  • Temporary closures to the boardwalk and lighthouse due to pathway installation

  • Parking relocation – no parking is allowed in front of the light station

  • Removal of live oak trees that are in poor health
