3.9 earthquake felt in Southcentral Alaska

Feb. 16—A magnitude 3.9 earthquake rattled the Mat-Su on Thursday and was felt in other parts of Southcentral Alaska, including Anchorage.

The quake struck just after 2:30 p.m. Thursday about 22 miles southwest of Willow, according to the Alaska Earthquake Center. It was about 38 miles deep, the center reported.

According to the U.S. Geological Survey, a magnitude 3.0 earthquake struck in a similar location earlier Thursday afternoon — about 25 miles west of Willow — just after 1 p.m. That earlier quake was only about 2 miles deep, according to the Alaska Earthquake Center.

No tsunami was expected, according to the National Tsunami Warning Center. There were no immediate reports of damage from either earthquake on social media.
