3 arrested, 1 on the run after armed robbery in Covington

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Three people are facing charges after they allegedly beat a man and robbed him at gunpoint in Covington on Tuesday.

According to the Covington Police Department, 18-year-old Jayden Gayden, 20-year-old Tavion Gayden, and 20-year-old Kiyon Currie are the suspects responsible for the armed robbery, but police say they were only able to locate Jayden and Tavion Gayden.

Kyion Currie is wanted on an active warrant for aggravated robbery.

Police say the victim picked up a woman named Kalisha McKinnie, 23, along with three men from an apartment complex Tuesday.

The victim was told to drive the passengers to Jackson, Tenn., but once the group arrived back to Covington, police say the victim was told to stop at the car wash on East Ripley Street.

Reports say one of the men beat the victim while another pointed a gun at him and demanded his wallet, car keys, and cell phones.

Two on the run after carjacking leads to chase, crash

The victim reportedly received only minor injuries and was able to escape and call 911. The suspects fled the scene.

The Covington Police Department was assisted by Criminal Investigations Department detectives and the Violent Crime Unit team, which led to the identification of Jayden Gayden, Tavion Gayden, and Kiyon Currie.

Jayden, Tavion, and Kalisha McKinnie were taken into custody and transported to the Tipton County Jail.

  • Jayden Gayden is charged with aggravated robbery and is being held on a $250,000 bond.

  • Tavion Gayden is charged with facilitation of a felony and is being held on a $50,000 bond.

  • Kalisha McKinnie faces charges of facilitation of a felony and two counts of criminal simulation. She is being held on a $50,000 bond.

All three suspects are set to appear in court on February 20.
