3 arrested, 22 machines seized in illegal gambling operation: Akron police

AKRON, Ohio (WJW) — Three people were arrested when investigators tracked down an alleged illegal gambling operation in Akron on Wednesday night.

Officers conducted a search warrant at the property in the 1400 block of Kenmore Boulevard at about 10:45 p.m., according to the Akron Police Department.

Detectives said the search was part of an ongoing investigation into traffic stops and suspicious activity in the area.

During the search, officers confiscated 22 gambling machines, more than $14,000 in cash, methamphetamine and a handgun, according to a news release.

Two men, ages 52 and 63, and a woman, 30, were taken into custody, charged with operating a gambling house and prohibition against gambling.

“We recognize that illegal gambling creates public safety and nuisance-related concerns for our community and will continue to tackle these issues together,” police officials said in the release.
