3 arrested in death of woman whose body was found at old Boysville facility

Michigan State Police have arrested three people who are charged with murder in the death of a woman whose body was found in March at the abandoned Boysville Juvenile Detention Center in Frenchtown Township.

Two people have been arraigned in 1st District Court while a third is to be extradited from Ohio, according to the Michigan State Police.

Sierra Nicole Bemis, 23, and Brin David Westley Smith, 20, are each charged with open murder and conspiracy to commit open murder. An open murder charge allows a jury to determine the degree of murder, should the case go to trial. The third suspect faces the same charges, the state police said.

Bemis and Smith are scheduled for probable cause conferences Thursday, April 13, before Monroe County District Judge Christian J. Horkey, according to online court records. Preliminary examinations are scheduled for April 18, also before Horkey.

Smith is being held in the Monroe County Jail on a $1 million bond. Bemis is being held in the jail on a $500,000 bond.

Sedoskey, 23, had a son, her obituary said.

The Monroe County Prosecutor’s Office is still reviewing the incident for possible charges on other suspects, a news release from the state police said. Anyone with further information relating to Sedoskey's death is asked to contact Detective Sgt. Michael Peterson at the MSP Monroe Post by calling 734-242-3500.
