3 arrested in OVI checkpoint Friday night in Clark County

Sep. 21—The Ohio State Highway Patrol has announced the results of an OVI checkpoint Friday night in Clark County.

The sobriety checkpoint was from 8 to 10 p.m. on East Leffel Lane between Burnett and Progressive roads in Springfield Twp.

In total, 76 vehicles passed through the checkpoint.

Of those, three were diverted to a separate location, leading to two OVI arrests and one arrest for driving without a license and having an open container of alcohol.

One of the OVI arrests also had a felony amount of marijuana in the vehicle, according to the highway patrol.

State law requires law enforcement to announce the time and location of OVI checkpoints ahead of time.

The Clark County Sheriff's Office, Springfield Police Division and German Twp. Police Department joined the highway patrol for the checkpoint, which is funded by federal grants and is intended to deter and intercept impaired drivers.

The OSHP said that based on provisional data there were 637 OVI-related fatal crashes, ending in the deaths of 685 people.
