3 attempted child abductions reported in Milam County, officials investigating

AUSTIN (KXAN) — The Milam County Sheriff’s Office said on Friday that it was investigating three reports of possible attempted child abductions in the area.

According to MCSO, one of the incidents took place Tuesday, while the other two happened Thursday.

Officials said the Tuesday incident occurred at a convenience store in Thorndale.

“[A] teenage driver believed she was being followed, and Thorndale PD believed they could be trying to abduct the teen. A separate incident involving similar vehicles then occurred Thursday evening,” MCSO said.

Officials said the second Thursday incident occurred in Milano when a vehicle believed to be driven by a tan man approached a girl and was described as telling her to get in the vehicle or else be forced in. Officials said the vehicle drove off when the girl ran away.

MCSO said that based on the information available, it and all partner agencies would increase patrols at all Milam County school campuses.

Officials urged parents to educate their children about being aware of their surroundings and to run away or call 9-1-1 if approached by someone they do not know. Community members were also instructed to alert the authorities of anything or anyone they believe is acting suspiciously.

Anyone with information about these incidents can call the Sheriff’s Office at 254-697-7033 or call Crime Stoppers at 254-697-8477.
