3 Central Florida restaurants shut down last week

Three Central Florida restaurants received emergency orders to shut down in the week of Oct. 10-16, according to data from the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation.

Osceola County

Marco’s Pizza at 7553 Osceola Polk Line Road in Davenport shut down on Oct 14.

Inspectors found seven violations, featuring a high-priority violation for flying insects in the prep kitchen. Officials returned on Oct. 15 to find the facility had not fixed any of the issues from the initial visit.

A second Oct. 15 visit found six violations, none of which were a high priority.

The restaurant was allowed to open.

Volusia County

Julita’s Tacos at 345 East Beresford Ave. in DeLand shut down on Oct. 11.

Inspectors found 11 violations, four of which were a high priority. Those violations included the restaurant operating without running water, improperly stored raw animal food, and an employee working who hadn’t yet washed their hands.

Official revisited the restaurant on Oct. 12. They were allowed to reopen after officials found seven violations, none of which was a high priority.

Dairy Queen Of South Daytona at 2270 Ridgewood Ave. shut down on Oct. 13.

Officials found 12 violations, four of which were a high priority. Those violations included rodent activity and droppings, a missing vacuum breaker at the mop sink, and food held at the wrong temperature.

Officials revisited the restaurant on Oct 14. They found seven violations while the vacuum breaker was still broken.

After granting a time extension for fixing the breaker, they allowed the restaurant to reopen.

Complaints and warnings

Orange County had the top spot for most warnings and other complaints in Central Florida with 43.

Volusia had 9, Brevard had 15, Seminole had 9, Lake had 7, and Osceola had 16. Warnings given with required follow-up inspections could lead to a business being shut down if problems remain.

In surrounding counties, 10 warnings or complaints were filed in Polk and 3 in Sumter.
