3 dead, 11 wounded in Chicago shootings since Friday afternoon, police say

Three people were fatally wounded, and at least 11 others were injured in shootings since Friday afternoon, Chicago police said.

The first fatal shooting happened shortly before 4 p.m. in the 4000 block of West Madison Street in the West Garfield Park neighborhood. Police said an unidentified man was struck in the back of the head, and was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Less than two hours later, a 14-year-old girl and a 35-year-old man were shot, the man fatally, in the 6600 block of South Oakley Avenue in the West Englewood neighborhood, police said.

About 5:45 p.m., the girl and the man were on the sidewalk when a vehicle approached and an occupant opened fire, striking the girl in the thigh and ankle, and hitting the man in the head. The man was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn where he was pronounced dead, said police. The girl was taken to Comer Children’s Hospital where she was listed in good condition.

Shortly after 10 p.m. Friday, a 25-year-old man was fatally wounded in the 2600 block of 62nd Street in the Chicago Lawn neighborhood. The man was dropped off by a friend to Holy Cross Hospital with wounds to the right shoulder and hip, and was pronounced dead.

In other shootings:

Shortly before 6:30 a.m. Saturday, a 35-year-old man and his girlfriend were standing in the 6300 block of South Artesian Avenue in the Chicago Lawn neighborhood when the man was shot in the left shoulder and clavicle. He was first taken to Holy Cross Hospital, and later transferred to Mount Sinai Hospital where he was listed in good condition, police said.

Shortly before 3:30 a.m. on the West Side in the Fifth City neighborhood, a 26-year-old man was walking on the sidewalk when someone inside a vehicle fired shots, striking him in the torso. He was taken in critical condition to Mount Sinai Hospital, police said.

About 3 a.m. Saturday, two teenage boys were shot while they were walking south in the 7000 block of South California Avenue in the Marquette Park neighborhood. One boy, 17, was driven to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn with a gunshot wound to the back. The other boy, 16, also was driven to the same hospital with a graze wound to the right arm, and was listed in good condition, police said.

About 2:15 a.m., a 44-year-old man was shot in the neck and face in the 5000 block of West Quincy Street in the South Austin neighborhood. Police said the victim was involved in an argument with someone who pulled out a gun and fired shots. The victim was taken in serious condition to Stroger Hospital, and a 21-year-old man was placed in police custody.

Shortly before 2 a.m., an 18-year-old man was standing in a back yard of a residence in the the 3500 block of West 63rd Street in the Chicago Lawn neighborhood when shots were fired, and he was struck in the head. He was taken in good condition to Advocate Christ Medical Center, police said.

Shortly after 9 p.m. Friday, a 40-year-old man was shot while standing in the 5000 block of West Chicago Avenue in the South Austin neighborhood. Police said someone approached the victim and opened fire, striking him in the right leg and buttocks. He was taken to Stroger Hospital in serious condition.

Shortly before 6:30 p.m., two men, 19 and 24, were in the 1100 block of West 63rd Street in the Englewood neighborhood, when the heard shots and felt pain. The younger man suffered wounds to the hand and feet, and was taken in good condition to the University of Chicago Medical Center. The older man was hit in the leg and arm, also was taken to the same hospital, and was also listed in good condition, police said.

About 5 p.m., a 19-year-old man was shot while he was waiting for a bus in the 2900 block of North Cicero Avenue in the Cragin neighborhood. Police said a dark-colored vehicle pulled up and someone opened fire in the man’s direction. The victim suffered a wound to the left leg, and was taken in good condition to Community First Hospital.
