3 dead, including 4-year-old girl, in Volusia crash on I-95

Three people died and eight were injured Sunday morning when their van crashed on Interstate 95 in Volusia County near Ormond Beach.

A four year-old girl, 19-year-old woman and an unidentified person, who was pinned beneath the van, died at the scene, according to Florida Highway Patrol spokeswoman Lt. Kim Montes.

The 11 people, who live in another state, were inside the van when it drifted off the road and flipped over around 5:30 a.m., Montes said. The roof was ripped open during the crash and the passengers were ejected from the van, she added.

Four people were taken to Halifax Health Medical Center and a three-year-old toddler was flown to Orlando Health Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children in stable condition.

Three people taken to an AdventHealth hospital are in critical condition.
