3 die in northern Minnesota crash

Feb. 4—NORTHOME, Minnesota — A head-on crash Sunday morning, Feb. 4, resulted in the deaths of both drivers and one passenger, while several other passengers were hospitalized with life-threatening injuries.

Riley Walter Scheidecker, 24, of Bloomer, Wisconsin, was driving a 2016 Chevrolet Silverado west on Minnesota Highway 1, when it collided with a 2021 Ford F150 driven by Joseph Michael Carlson, 27, of North Branch, Minnesota, at about 11:05 a.m., according to an accident report from the Minnesota State Patrol. Both drivers died at the scene, along with Carlson's passenger, John Clifford Corazzo, 27, of Shoreview, Minnesota.

Two passengers in the Silverado suffered what authorities referred to as life-threatening injuries. Dolton Lee Johnson, 26, of Menomonie, Wisconsin, was sent to Sanford Bemidji Medical Center, and Thomas Ronald Johnson, 26, of Bloomer, was sent to a hospital in Fargo, the state patrol said. Neither were wearing seat belts, according to investigators.

A third Silverado passenger, Levi Holum, 26, of Bloomer sustained injuries considered not to be life-threatening. He was also transported to Sanford Bemidji Medical Center.

Road conditions were dry at the time. Koochiching County, Blackduck Ambulance and Littlefork Ambulance assisted at the scene.
