3 exonerated men released, 1983 murder convictions tossed out

Three men who each have served 36 years in prison were exonerated Monday for a murder they did not commit. Dewitt Duckett, 14, was killed on Nov. 18, 1983, at Harlem Park Junior High School. Three men convicted in the case -- Alfred Chestnut, Ransom Watkins and Andrew Stewart -- said they were not at the school at the time of the killing. They were arrested on Thanksgiving Day in 1983. The men's felony murder charges were tossed out, and Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Charles Peters apologized to them on behalf of the criminal justice system.
