Florida’s universities have been rising in reputation in recent years. They’ve been doing something else, too: growing and growing.

They’ve expanded so much in recent decades that three now rank in the Top 10 nationwide.

With more than 68,000 undergraduate and graduate students, the University of Central Florida in Orlando is the second-largest college campus in the nation, according to BestColleges.

But two other Florida universities are not far behind.

Coming in at No. 7 is Miami's Florida International University with a total enrollment of 55,687.

And No. 8 is a school that used to be the state’s largest: the University of Florida in Gainesville with an enrollment of 55,430. BestColleges' figures include both graduate and undergraduate students.

But the list of large Florida campuses hardly ends there. Here are the state’s national universities, ranked by the size of their undergraduate enrollment in 2022. U.S. News defines national universities as schools that "offer a range of undergraduate majors, plus master's and doctoral programs, and emphasize faculty research or award professional practice doctorates."

The listing, complied from U.S. News & World Report’s annual college rankings, does not include state colleges or smaller regional universities and excludes graduate students from its count.
