3 Fort Worth restaurants closed for serious health violations, roaches, flies seen at others
Three Fort Worth restaurants were closed for serious health violations during the Dec. 3-9 health inspections and roaches and flies were found at several establishments, according to data from the city compiled by the Star-Telegram.
Riscky’s Barbeque, located at 140 E. Exchange Ave. in the Stockyards, scored 20 on Dec. 4 and closed voluntarily because the walk-in cooler wasn’t functioning. The inspector noted that repair staff were servicing the cooler and a follow-up inspection would take place later to make sure the cooler was working.
Mariscos El Puerto de Acapulco at 1025 E. Seminary Dr. scored 25 on Dec. 5 and was required to close due to sewage discharge from an underground pipe.
Whataburger at 9501 White Settlement Road scored 14 on Dec. 7 and was required to close due to no hot water.
One restaurant scored over 30. Restaurants that receive more than 30 demerits are required to immediately fix the most critical violations and start corrective procedures on all the other violations within 48 hours.
Joe’s Pizza and Pasta, located at 8540 S. Hulen St., scored 32 on Dec. 4. Beef and chicken weren’t held at a safe temperature, black organic residue was found on the soda nozzles and can opener, four lights were out in the dining area and the walk-in refrigerator and dry storage area weren’t adequately lighted.
The restaurant scored 18 on a Dec. 7 follow-up inspection, but the inspector found black organic residue on the soda nozzles and can opener and saw flies in the back and dining areas.
Several other restaurants scored close to 30. Khanh’s Vietnamese Restaurant, located at 6901 McCart Ave., scored 28 on Dec. 6. The inspector found some meat and seafood without dates in the reach-in cooler, black organic reside on the HVAC vents in back and small dead roaches on a roach trap.
Mica’s Tortilleria y Taqueria at 3564 W. Seminary Drive scored 27 on Dec. 7. Some food wasn’t held at a safe temperature, black organic stains were found inside the ice machine and flies were seen in the dining room and back area.
House of Korea Sam Won Garden at 5201 McCart Ave. scored 26 on Dec. 6. Some raw beef and chicken inside the refrigerator were not properly dated, and the inspector found brownish organic residue on some racks in the walk-in cooler. Flies were also found in the dining room and back area.
Taqueria y Tortilleria Mi Ranchito at 5737 Crowley Road scored 26 on Dec. 7. The inspector found a dead cockroach under the 3 compartment sink drainage area and noted that the floors, walls and ceilings of the facility were dirty.
Krab Kingz Seafood at 5250 N. Tarrant Parkway scored 25 on Dec. 7. Wastewater from the hand sink was draining onto the floor, and wastewater at the prep sink was draining into a bucket. Some employees hadn’t completed an accredited food handler course, and the restaurant’s permit and inspection report weren’t posted in public view.
Roaches were found at Hill Villa Senior Living at 8000 Calmont Ave., Istanbul Grill at 401 Throckmorton St., El Pollo Regio at 7108 Camp Bowie West Blvd. and Riscky’s Barbeque at 300 Main St.
Flies were noted at multiple locations, including Mexico Real at 5613 McCart Ave., Dona Carmen Pupuseria at 1818 Hemphill St., Bucks Wild at 5316 Superior Parkway, Woody Creek Bar-B-Q at 1776 Mall Circle, Thailicious at 4601 West Freeway, Lisa’s Chicken and Seafood at 3400 Brandon Lane and 7330 W. Cleburne Road, Williams Chicken at 4313 E. Berry St., El Pollo Regio at 7108 Camp Bowie West Blvd., Heim Barbecue at 1109 W. Magnolia Ave., Juanito’s Taqueria at 4150 Hemphill St. and Tandy Village Assisted Living at 2601 Tandy Ave.
