3 Houston police officers in stable condition following shooting
Three Houston police officers are hospitalized with non-life threatening injuries, following a shooting Thursday afternoon.
The suspect fled the scene in a Mercedes he carjacked, the Houston Police Department said, and was later taken into custody after he barricaded himself inside a home. The department said the suspect "fired multiple shots at SWAT officers," but none were hit. The suspect sustained a gunshot wound to the neck and will undergo surgery, CBS News reports.
Houston Police Chief Troy Finner told reporters on Thursday night that the incident began in the mid-afternoon, when officers responded to a disturbance call at a home. The suspect fled in a car, which he later crashed during a chase with police officers. When the officers got out of their vehicles, the suspect started shooting, Finner said, and they returned fire.
The three injured officers range in age from 28 to 35, CBS News reports. One was shot in the foot, one was shot in the arm, and one was shot in the leg. Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner said he visited the officers in the hospital, and they were "talkative" and "in good spirits."
