3 indicted after 21-year-old man was shot in the face in Cleveland Heights

CLEVELAND HEIGHTS, Ohio (WJW) – Three men have been indicted for shooting a 21-year-old man in the face in Cleveland Heights on Jan. 21.

According to a press release from Cuyahoga County Prosecutor Michael C. O’Malley, a Cuyahoga County grand jury indicted 18-year-old Rayshaun Hickman, 19-year-old Keshon Fussell Johnson and 19-year-old Dannel Mason.

According to the release, the victim pulled into an apartment complex parking lot near Mayfield Road and Cleveland Heights Boulevard just before 5:45 p.m. That is when Hickman, Johnson and Mason were waiting inside the complex.

One suspect got into the victim’s vehicle, followed by another suspect, who also approached the vehicle.

According to the release, that is when an argument started and the second suspect pointed a gun at the vehicle, as the third suspect ran toward them.

According to the release, the victim began to honk his car horn, and the third suspect opened the victim’s driver’s side door and grabbed a plastic bag out of the vehicle.

As the victim tried to drive away from the situation, the first suspect got out of the vehicle, fired his gun and shot the victim in the face, according to the release.

That is when the victim drove out of the parking lot and around the building for help. All three suspects fled on foot, according to the release.

The Cleveland Heights Police Department and the Cleveland Heights Fire Department responded to the scene and took the victim to the nearest hospital.

Johnson was arrested on Jan. 22, while Hickman and Mason were arrested on Jan. 23, according to the release.

On Jan. 30, Hickman and Johnson were indicted on two counts of aggravated robbery, two counts of felonious assault, one count of grand theft and one count of tampering with evidence.

Mason was indicted on two counts of aggravated robbery, two counts of felonious assault, one count of grand theft, one count of tampering with evidence and one count of receiving stolen property.

“The citizens of Cleveland Heights should be proud of the work of their police department,” Prosecutor Michael C. O’Malley said. “They quickly apprehended these individuals and now they will face the consequences of their actions.”

According to the release, Hickman, Johnson and Mason will be arraigned at the Cuyahoga County Justice Center at a later date.
