Three sailors were injured when a small Navy boat crashed Thursday evening at Naval Base Kitsap-Bangor.

A small Navy vessel operating on the perimeter of Naval Base Kitsap-Bangor struck a security barrier and sank at around 7:20 p.m. on Thursday, Naval Base Kitsap said in a press release issued Friday afternoon. Three sailors were injured in the incident and were sent to a local medical facility with non-life-threatening injuries.

The crewmembers made a distress call after the collision and another naval vessel came to recover the boat from the water, the Navy said.

There have been no indications of a fuel leak or impact to the environment, according to the press release.

The incident is under investigation and Naval Base Kitsap personnel continue to monitor the situation, the Navy said on Friday.
