3 Major Ohio Companies Announce Layoffs

ONTARIO, OH — Three major companies announced layoffs or furloughs this week in Ohio.

The Shutterfly Lifetouch Church Business operations have been severely impacted by COVID-19, the company said in a letter to the Ohio Department of Jobs and Family Services. Many places of worship, a primary client for the company, have seen attendance drop in the wake of the virus.

The company is cutting workforce at its facility at 2300 W. 4th Street in Ontario. All layoffs are expected to be permanent.

"Under other circumstances we may have been able to provide more notice of this action, but under the current unforeseeable business conditions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, we are providing our employees with as much notice as possible," the company said in its letter.

Similarly, Southwest Airlines argued that COVID-19 has devastated the tourism and travel industries. The company said it lost 70 percent of its revenue in the third quarter of 2020. Furloughs will begin in March 2021.

Schneider Electric said it will layoff 13 employees at its facility at 6255 Halle Drive in Valley View. The layoffs will be permanent and will begin Feb. 5, 2021.

  • Schneider Electric in Valley View — 13 employees

  • Shutterfly Lifetouch in Ontario — 100 employees

  • Southwest Airlines, John Glenn Columbus International Airport — 26 employees
