3 Michelin Stars For DC Area Restaurant, A First

The D.C. area finally has its first three-Michelin starred restaurant, although it's a bit of a drive from D.C. proper.

D.C. has suffered from being the only U.S. city on Michelin's list to fail to produce a three-star restaurant, but no more. The Inn at Little Washington has earned that coveted designation in the 2019 edition of the guide.

Michelin released its first list of D.C. restaurants in 2016, rating just 12 restaurants. It gave only three of them two stars: the Inn at Little Washington, Minibar, and Pineapple & Pearls.

The inclusion of Inn at Little Washington is a little unusual because it is located in Washington, Va., a tiny town tucked in the Blue Ridge Mountains in Rappahannock County and an hour and a half drive west from D.C.

The Washington Post was with chef Patrick O'Connell when he got the news from Michelin, and captured video of his reaction to receiving the top honor.

Minibar and Pineapple & Pearls both retained their two-star status in the guide, while Bresca and Siren were added to the one-star list.
