3 months later, search for Tyler Doyle hasn’t stopped. Since disappearance, he’s become a dad

It’s been nearly four months since Tyler Doyle went missing when his boat sank while duck hunting in Little River in January.

Coastal law enforcement with the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources continue to search for the 22-year-old Loris man.

“Our officers, when on routine patrol, continue to look for Tyler Doyle,” according to an officers’ statement provided by text Thursday from Greg Lucas with the SCDNR. “Tactics have not changed.”

Those tactics include both water and land searches by the SCDNR, Brunswick County, North Carolina, Sheriff’s Office and the North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission. Family and friends have also continued to search.

However, there appears to be no additional physical clues to his whereabouts since items belonging to Doyle were found Jan. 31 near Ocean Isle Beach, North Carolina.

Those items included duck decoys, waders and Doyle’s wallet, which were found about two miles offshore.

The SCDNR has ruled that no foul play is suspected in Doyle’s disappearance and that it was a boating/hunting accident.

Officers used location data from Doyle’s Life360, a location-sharing app, which was provided to investigators by his family, as well as phone records with the data location information, witness interviews, a boat inspection and recovered items for the ruling, according to department reports.

Wife gives birth to couple’s child since disappearance

Doyle was a soon-to-be dad when he went missing. His wife, Lakelyn, gave birth to the couple’s child last month, according to social media posts.

The little girl was to be named Paisley, according to Lakelyn’s Facebook posts.

Tyler Doyle was described by a friend earlier this year as a person who “loved everybody,” as well as duck hunting and racing.

Attempts to reach family members by possible phone numbers were unsuccessful.

Missing boater added to national database

Family and friends continue to spread hope through social media that Doyle will be found.

The family announced earlier this month that they were able to get Doyle on the National Missing and Unidentified Persons System, a national public clearinghouse for missing people.

Doyle is described as about 5 foot 9 inches or 5 foot 10 inches tall, weighing about 200 pounds with brown hair and blue eyes. He was wearing tan khaki pants, white T-shirt and a camouflage float coat.

“Tyler was hunting at the Mouth of the Intracoastal Waterway and the Atlantic Ocean in Little River South Carolina Jetty Rocks when his boat began taking on water and capsized causing Tyler to have to abandon his boat and jump into the Atlantic Ocean. Tyler did have his Life Jacket on and he was wearing a Camouflage Float Coat. The Surface Currents were 23 mph with a West Southwest wind and Tyler was swept away to an unknown location,” according to the description of his disappearance.

Police have reported that Doyle went missing after duck hunting in a 16-foot jon boat with a friend at the Little River jetties on Jan. 26. Doyle dropped the friend off on the north jetty and then went to scout out ducks, according to the SCDNR.

Doyle had called his friend, stating that the boat was taking on water. The water temperature that day was 50 degrees and the air temperature was 39 degrees, according to the SCDNR.

911 calls from the friend launched the multi-agency search that included the SCDNR, U.S. Coast Guard, Horry County Fire Rescue and North Myrtle Beach Fire Rescue.
