$3 movies? On Saturday, yes. Here's where to celebrate National Cinema Day around Columbus

These days, the list of things that cost only three dollars is not long, but on Saturday, three $1 bills will buy you a ticket to the movies.

Saturday is the first-ever National Cinema Day. Tickets to movies at participating theaters will cost just $3, including both new releases and any other movies currently playing. In Greater Columbus, participating theaters include chains such as AMC and Cinemark, as well as independents such as Gateway Film Center and Studio 35 Cinema & Drafthouse.

Cinema owners hope to excite moviegoers and fill theaters on what traditionally has been a slow Labor Day weekend. Before each showing, ticket buyers will get to see previews of upcoming films from 12 studios. If Saturday proves a success, organizers say National Cinema Day could become an annual event.
