Tragedy struck a family in Fresno on Saturday morning when a 3-year-old child was killed after a gun accidentally went off inside his home.
At around 8:30 a.m., officers responded to a call and upon entering the home, they found the boy with a gunshot wound in his head.
The child was rushed to Community Regional Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.
According to Fresno Police Lt. Mark Hudson, both of the boy’s parents and his siblings were home when the gun went off. The child’s father was the one who found the boy with the gun.
“It’s your parents’ worst nightmare, Hudson said. “Horrible scene. Obviously it’s a tragic situation where officers had to respond to something that bad. It’s certainly horrible for the parents that have to go through it, too. It’s tragic.”
Investigators spoke to the child’s father while the boy was in the hospital.
“Nothing at this point has been ruled out,” Hudson said. Currently, investigators are trying to piece together how the toddler managed to get a hold of the gun, and if any evidence suggests charges are called for.
